The Gautam Budh Nagar Administration has urged resident welfare associations, group housing societies, commercial complexes and institutional campuses to adopt rooftop solar power systems as part of efforts to promote clean energy infrastructure.
The installations are being encouraged under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to accelerate renewable energy adoption across Noida and Greater Noida, particularly in high-rise residential and institutional developments.
Under the scheme, buildings and premises spread across 5,000 square metres or more — including government institutions, aided institutions and commercial establishments — are required to install solar power plants. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency said housing societies and residential complexes are eligible for subsidy support of ₹18,000 per kilowatt for projects up to 500 kW, with total financial assistance capped at ₹90 lakh.
The subsidy is applicable for electricity consumption in common areas such as street lighting, water pumps, society offices and shared electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Officials added that the initiative is intended to encourage clean energy adoption, reduce dependence on conventional power sources and strengthen sustainable urban infrastructure. The eligible solar installation capacity for resident welfare associations and housing societies has been fixed at up to 3 kW per household.
